Profiles

Profiles is a profile tool supported by IBM which is included in IBM Lotus Connections. By using profiles user can search for people across an organization by name, phone number, location, or job title and view business card information. User can also find people based on the expertise by searching keywords in their profiles that reflect their knowledge and responsibility. User can send a person an instant message by clicking on their contact information. From a person's profile, user can link to the bookmarks they have shared, the communities they have joined and the blog postings they have made, and the activities have in common. If used within the organization, users can view and navigate the reporting structure of the organization. The profile information can be populated from back-end systems using Tivoli Directory Integrator.

Profiling supported by different vendors

According to our research, the published profile tools so far is supported by IBM Lotus Connections Profiles. Therefore, this paper will introduce this product a later blog entry. Moreover, our research has led to IBM as the only vendor to provide the capability which allows tagging against a person’s profile.

Profile lets user tap into the knowledge capital within an organization, and makes it easy to establish new business contacts. Profile helps expand personal network and Profiles help develop and maintain personal relationships that span obstacles like reporting structure, industry sector and geography.

Profile as known as a kind of personal resume has put into computer system. Profile typically includes a person's photo, reporting structure, name and information about the individual's expertise and areas of interest. Lots of web site assigns one profile to one registered user. Such profile is used for user sharing information and giving other people an idea of the person, where has been and what has been doing. User can share the places has lived, schools has attended, and companies where has worked and more. It all adds up to who you are. Profile is the directory and expertise location component that helps to find people across organization so can complete tasks faster.
