Bookmarking Tools supported by different vendors
According to our research,
Oracle, BEA, Sun as well as Novell, do not have any products at this time which
supports a bookmark function. Microsoft, in this case, does not have a specific
product for sharing bookmarks. Therefore, the following comparison will be based
on the products from IBM, Google and Yahoo. Furthermore, with the popularity of del.icio.us
as one of the most popular Internet based sharing bookmark systems, this blog entry
will compare del.icio.us as well.
The table below lists vendors and the basic functions which bookmark systems should have, which includes:
- edit which refers to the way of editing bookmarks,
- categorize which refers to the way of managing bookmarks,
- accessibility indicates the way of storing the bookmarks and the way of accessing them ; and
- others which refers to the
functions that specific belongs to a particular bookmark system.
This
part only gives a brief description of the various bookmark systems supported by different
vendors. Detailed information about the bookmark systems from each vendor will be introduced later.
